Van 7 tot 18 december 2009 vindt in de Deense hoofdstad Kopenhagen de beslissende klimaatconferentie onder het UNFCCC plaats. Tijdens deze klimaattop moet door wereldleiders (officieel slechts door milieuministers) worden beslist over de uiteindelijke inhoud van het nieuwe internationale klimaatverdrag, dat het Kyoto-protocol dient te vervangen. Het nieuwe verdrag treedt in 2012 in werking en bevat concrete doelen voor 2020.
Deze conferentie zal door milieuactivisten wereldwijd worden aangegrepen om een grootst protest te laten horen om zo de wereldleiders er op te wijzen dat het 5 voor 12 is dat er voor symbool politiek geen tijd meer is
Create & Resist Screenings springt hier op in met nieuwe Documentaire: ‘The Age of Stupid’ van Franny Armstrong (van o.a McLibel, Drowned Out). Voor dat de documentaire start zullen enkele organisatoren van o.a Jongeren Milieu Actief en de Internationale Socialisten in het kort toelichten wat er allemaal gaat gebeuren in deze week van de top in Nederland en Kopenhagen en hoe je mee zou kunnen doen.

In de verwoeste wereld van 2055 kijkt een oude man (Pete Postlethwaite) naar archiefmateriaal uit 2008 en vraagt zich af: waarom hebben wij de klimaatverandering niet tegengehouden toen het nog kon? De man is oprichter van het Global Archive, een plaats in de nu gesmolten poolcirkel waar allerlei menselijke successen bewaard worden, in de hoop dat de aarde ooit weer bewoonbaar wordt. Hij bekijkt beelden uit journaals en documentaires van 1950 tot 2008 om duidelijk te maken wat er verkeerd ging en waarom

20.30 – 21.15: sprekers en introductie
Deze maand zullen er meerdere boycott campagnes tegen Israel en de bezetting van Palestina hun start vinden in Nederland. Op deze avond zullen Baha Hilo (uit Palestina) en Kristel van de olijfboomcampagne vertellen over de recente situatie in de Westbanl en wat je kan doen om Palestina en de komende acties en campagnes te ondersteunen

Baha Hilo is een Palestijn uit Bethlehem. Hij studeerde sociologie aan de universiteit van Bethlehem en werkt als coordinator van de Olijfbomencampagne, een actie van de YMCA en YWCA van Palestina. Deze campagne richt zich op het aanplanten van door buitenlanders gesponsorde olijfbomen op plekken waar zij eerder werden vernield door het Israelische leger. Baha is in het kader van de Vredesweek uitgenodigd door de Nederlandse ‘Olijfbomencampagne – Houd Hoop Levend’. Hij vertelt over de huidige situatie in de Palestijnse gebieden en het werk van de Olijfbomencampagne en hoe wij het werk vanuit Nederland kunnen steunen.

About Bilin my Love (English)
This non-fictional film documents the struggle of one community in Palestine and their non-violent resistance to the Israeli Occupation. This community reflects thousands of others facing the same effects of state terrorism.
Shai served his two years in the Israeli army without any level of political awareness almost 20 years ago. He is now an anarchist and is devoted to the rescue of Bilin village, a Palestinian farming community whose very existence is being threatened by the illegal construction of Israeli settlements and the apartheid Wall. Since 2005 weekly demonstrations have been held in the village, which has already lost over 50% of its agricultural land to the construction of the Wall.
During the making of the film, Shai joins the village’s struggle, focusing on two central figures: Mohamed, a member of the village’s local committee against the illegal Wall, and Wagee, farmer and father of ten, who is losing the majority of his land to the Wall and to the illegally built settlement of Modin Elite.
At the beginning of the film we witness Shai’s first encounter with Wagee, and the instant welcome he receives. As the non-violent resistance in the village gathers momentum, as does the unique relationship between the Israeli activists and the residents of Bilin.
Through ‘Bilin Habibti’, we gain an insight not only into the mindset of anarchism within Israel, but also those who serve the occupation in the Israeli army. While seeming to only scratch the surface of this Palestinian community, Shai presents a complex account of each individual the film encounters in a way in which a greater understanding of the social, emotional and agricultural effects of the Israeli occupation can be gained.
